Middle School Program
Cleary School offers a variety of options for Middle School aged children. Depending on each child’s individual needs, students in grades six, seven and eight are offered the following programs:
● Academic instruction in a Self-Contained Class with integration into mainstream electives
● A Combination of Integrated Mainstream and Self-Contained classes
● Integrated Mainstream Classes with Academic Support classes taught by Cleary teachers
Planned according to each child’s individual abilities, skills and IEP recommendations, a mainstream program may be developed for inclusion in academic and/or elective classes with hearing peers at the East Islip Middle School.
Our Middle School Program Offers:
- Teachers certified in Deaf Education or teachers with specialized training in hearing loss.
- Sign Language Interpreting for Mainstream Classes
- Sign Language Interpreting Services for Extra Curricular Activities
- Speech and Language Therapy
- Guidance / Counseling Services, as needed
- Occupation Therapy, Physical Therapy, as required
- Courses in Physical Education, Technology, Art, Health, and a plethora of elective courses
- Educational Support Services
- 1 to 1 Technology
- Team meetings to periodically review students’ progress
- Support of Social Worker and School Psychologist
- Career Exploration and Transition Services
